Vita JP Overlay Brings On-Screen OCR and Dictionary Lookups to PS Vita
Play Japanese PS Vita games without constantly checking a paper dictionary thanks to a new on-screen OCR overlay tool.

Playing Japanese games on your PS Vita just got a whole lot easier for language learners. Developer Dartv released vita-jp-overlay, a new plugin that adds an on-screen overlay to scan game text and pull up dictionary definitions directly on the handheld.
If you have spent hours juggling a separate phone or paper dictionary while trying to grind through text-heavy visual novels or RPGs on your Vita, this solves that exact headache. The developer notes they used a similar setup on PC and Android for months before deciding to port the concept over to Sony’s handheld.
How to try it:
- Grab the latest release from the vita-jp-overlay GitHub repository.
- Install the plugin on your hacked PS Vita.
- Launch your Japanese game and trigger the overlay to scan on-screen text.
