The 1995 arcade racer Sega Rally now runs in real 3D on the Meta Quest 3. The build is free, it has HD textures, and it’s out now. You still need your own copy of the original game.

The author, u/alloxrinfo, posted it on r/virtualreality with a simple pitch: this isn’t a flat screen floating in a virtual room. The game is rendered in 3D inside the headset, so depth is the whole point.

The install details live on the GitHub. The author points to it from his Discord and from a comment under a YouTube video. The post doesn’t give a repo URL, and it doesn’t say which version of the original game the build expects. Check the GitHub page before you dig in.

The author says Time Crisis is next. He also lists eight more Sega arcade games he says already run in the headset: Virtua Cop, Daytona USA, The House of the Dead, Sega Super GT, Top Skater, Virtua Racing, Dirt Dash and Time Crisis II. He’s clear the order means nothing, so don’t read it as a release schedule.

Why it matters: arcade games suit VR. The controls are simple, the reactions are fast, and the nostalgia is strong. If the list holds, a big chunk of Sega’s cabinet catalog could end up in a headset without anyone owning a cabinet. For now that’s the author’s word, but the Sega Rally build is already downloadable.
