RPCS3 Team Wants Nothing to Do With PS5, but Someone Already Ran It There

An unofficial native RPCS3 build reportedly runs on a PS5 Pro, even though the emulator's team has no interest in a PS5 port.

The RPCS3 team says it has no interest in a PS5 port. Someone didn’t wait for permission. According to VideoCardz, an unofficial native build already runs on a PS5 Pro, and a post on r/emulation picked up the same story.

One of the headlines in the feed calls it an “Experimental native homebrew port.” To me, that wording means the build runs on the console itself, not as an emulator on a PC. That’s my read of the title, not something the sources spell out.

What the sources don’t tell you is just as important. They don’t say which games run, how the build gets onto the console, what firmware it needs, or who wrote it. The headlines don’t name a developer, so I won’t name one either. Don’t go hunting for a download based on a headline.

My take: emulator teams usually keep console ports at arm’s length. Part of that is legal risk. Part of it is that breaking into a locked console is a different job from writing an emulator, and the two crowds don’t always overlap. If this build holds up, it matters more than the headline suggests, because it would mean a PS5 running homebrew at a level people have only talked about so far. Wait for real build notes and a named author before you get excited. The scene has burned people on early claims before.
