PSXS5 2.2.0 is out for jailbroken PS5s, and the big news is a third emulator. SwanStation, based on DuckStation, uses Vulkan and a fast CPU recompiler. The bigger win for most people is USB loading. You can now run PS1 games straight from a drive without copying them to internal storage first.

USB loading takes CHD, CUE/BIN, PBP, ISO, IMG, MDF, CCD and M3U. A USB drive can also supply the BIOS if the console’s BIOS folder comes up empty. Memory cards are now shared across all three emulators. Save states record which emulator made them, so you won’t mix them up.

The rest of the list is long. Run-ahead at 1-2 frames cuts input lag. There’s a PS1 startup intro with an optional disc launch animation. NeGcon works with analog gas and brake, and the touchpad can act as a mouse. Graphics get sharpening, true colour and smoother FMV colours. RetroAchievements sign-in works from your phone. Settings tabs sit across the top now, switched with L1/R1.

Fixes hit the stuff people complain about. Beetle’s startup intro and screen effects are fixed. Video mode switches stall less. A saved shader cache cuts repeat stutters. Save states in Final Fantasy VII and other big games are better. The PC sync tool handles multi-disc games more reliably and shows per-file progress and transfer speed.

If you’re on 2.1.1 or newer, go to Settings → About → Check for updates. On 2.0.0, install manually over FTP by copying the PPSA97510 folder to /data/homebrew/.

Grab it from the PSXS5 GitHub page. The developer, SynoPiia, posts on X.
